“New Moon” sounds like the Moon got a fresh outfit and reintroduced herself. 😂 So what is actually happening up there?
The astronomy: the Moon has not disappeared
The Moon reflects sunlight. As it orbits Earth, we see different amounts of its sunlit half. At a new Moon, the Moon is near the Sun in our sky, and its illuminated side faces mostly away from Earth. The side facing us looks dark. It is there; it is just very committed to staying out of the photo. NASA explains this in its Moon phases guide.
A new Moon does not bring a solar eclipse every month. The lunar orbit is tilted, so the Moon usually passes above or below the Sun from our point of view. The phase cycle repeats about every 29.5 days.
The date and the symbolism
The U.S. Naval Observatory calculates the next new Moon for October 10, 2026, at 15:50 UTC, which is 11:50 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time. In tropical astrology, the Sun–Moon meeting is labeled Libra. The time and phase are astronomical calculations; the zodiac meaning is an astrological interpretation.
Astrology often treats a new Moon as a prompt to begin again. Libra symbolism raises questions about relationships and fairness. That does not promise that a relationship will change because you wrote something in a notebook. The notebook cannot have the conversation for you. Rude, I know. 😂
Try this in five minutes
- Notice where an agreement feels unclear.
- Write: “A fairer arrangement would look like…”
- Choose one action: ask a question, make a request or follow through on a promise.
You can do it on New Moon day or whenever you have a quiet moment. The value is in reflection followed by action. If writing helps, explore the Create Your Own Magic journal and pen set.
Astrology here is for reflection and entertainment; it does not guarantee an outcome.
